District 055 – Moore Capito

My roots are deep in the Kanawha Valley and this State.  My family has called the Valley home for five generations.

Growing up in West Virginia was a fun and formative experience.  I learned early on the importance of family, integrity, and hard work.  These are the values that shape who I am as a husband and a father.  I am a proud product of the West Virginia public school system, which, through academics and sports, equipped me with the skills and confidence I used to earn a bachelor’s degree.

After graduating from Duke University, I worked in Washington, D.C. for the U.S. House of Representatives and then for the U.S. Department of Defense in Office of the Secretary of Defense under the Honorable Robert M. Gates.

My path back home to West Virginia began when I left Washington to attend law school at the Washington and Lee University School of Law.  More important than earning my law degree, I met my wife Katie at W&L.

Upon graduation, Katie and I moved home to West Virginia to start our family and our careers – mine in the oil and gas business.  In May of 2015, we were blessed with our first child, Eliza.

When we aren’t busy chasing Eliza or our two dogs, Katie and I spend our spare time with family and our favorite Charleston organizations.  We’re both members of the Rotary Club of Charleston, avid sports fans, and members of First Presbyterian Church.
