District 097 – John Hardy

John Hardy has built his life, family, and business in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. He was born and raised in Jefferson County and has spent the past twenty-five years as a resident of Berkeley County. During those twenty-five years, Mr. Hardy has been raising his family, running a business, and involving himself in various aspects of the community, county, and state that he loves.

John Hardy is the owner of Stephens Painting & General Contracting, LLC. The business was started by his Grandfather in Berkeley County in 1945. From a young age, John learned the skills of the trade and how to run a business. In 1995, upon his Grandfather’s retirement, John took over at the helm of the family business. For the past twenty-three years, he has continued to focus on quality and service while growing the size and scope of the business. He is happy to be a small-business owner providing jobs in our community.

In addition to being a business owner, John Hardy has always carried with him a desire to serve others. He is a Veteran of the United States Army, serving six years as a Military Police Officer in the 157th Army National Guard Unit in Martinsburg. He has been a Rotarian with the Martinsburg Sunrise Rotary for five years and currently serves in the capacity of President-Elect. For the past year, John has been a member of the Berkeley County Planning Commission. Previously, John served on the community service board for the Eastern Panhandle Home Builders Association. As a business owner, John has volunteered and donated to many causes including Habitat for Humanity and The United Way’s Day of Caring. As a parent, John has volunteered in the PTA, booster organizations, and wherever he was needed.

John Hardy is a family man. He and his wife, Sally, have been married for 21 years. Sally also works in their business as office manager. They have two daughters. Megan is a freshman at West Virginia University and Molly is a Sophomore at Spring Mills High School. The Hardy’s enjoy spending time together at home or wherever adventure takes them. John Hardy is an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and shooting sports. He also enjoys camping, knife making, and building almost anything.

Politically, John Hardy is a pro-life Christian and fiscally conservative Republican. He is a member of the NRA, the West Virginia Citizens Defense League, a former Federal Firearms License holder and dealer, and a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment and Constitutional Carry. He supports fiscal responsibility, wants to eliminate waste and fraud in our government, and wants to address concerns regarding new taxes and fees. John Hardy is pro-business and wants our state and the Eastern Panhandle to grow economically on the principals of capitalism. As the parent of daughters attending high school and college in West Virginia, John has a vested interest in improving education. As a blue-collar professional, he values vocational and technical training for a diversified workforce. John is also concerned with social issues, especially the opioid epidemic.

John Hardy has decided to run for a seat in the WV House of Delegates because he feels called to use his experiences, talents, and skills for the good of his beloved state of West Virginia. As a self-described “make it happen” kind of man, John truly believes that his service can make a difference for his family and fellow citizens in the Eastern Panhandle. His ability to communicate and effectively work on a team coupled with his understanding and passion for the issues, will make him the best candidate for the job!
